It takes 19 years to build Tofukuji Temple from 1236 to 1255 year. The name of Tofukuji is came from Todaiji Temple and Fuku of Kofukuji Temple in Nara.
This temple was re-build several times but many national treasures and important cultural assets are still preserved in this temple.

Sengyokukan Valley and the bridge named Tutenkyo over the valley between the main hall and Kaisando in the temple ground are the famous places for the colored leaves in Autaumn.
